English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC)

WHAT IS ELAC?

The purpose of the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners. Additionally, the ELAC provides input to the School Site Council (SSC) on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The ELAC also advises the school principal and staff on the schools needs assessment, annual language census (R30), and efforts to educate parents on the importance of school attendance.

All members of the school community are invited to attend ELAC meetings. However, the makeup must be reflective of the number of English learners in the school. Approximately 45% of the student population at Laurel are English learners. Therefore, the ELAC must maintain a minimum representation of parent participants equal to or above 45%.
