Save Those Box Tops!

Keep bringing in those boxtops!  Be sure to include your child's name and room number, if you send the boxtops in baggies.  The money raised helps to buy new playground balls and other equipment.  Way to go Leopards!

Visitors / Volunteers on Campus

Please be sure to sign in at the office if you are volunteering in the classroom or need to visit the school for any reason, aside from picking up or dropping off a student.  If possible, make all doctor and dentist appointments before or after school hours.

School Supply List

Please click here for the recommended school supply list for all grade levels.  We appreciate the generosity of our families in making sure that all students are prepared for the upcoming school year!

Notification System

We are currently using the SchoolMessenger communication system to send important announcements to you.  SchoolMessenger offers you the ability to determine how you would like to receive the different types of messages.  If you would like to receive messages in a different manner (different phone number, additional phone number, email, text, etc.) please call Shannon Ames (714) 990-7533 at the District Office to make those changes.

Recycling Opportunity

All PAPER wanted!  This year tell all family and friends to save their old newspapers, magazines, catalogs, mail, etc.  All paper (except anything associated with food) will be accepted.  Bag or box your papers and bring them to your child's class or simply drop them in our brown paper recycling dumpster.  The dumpster is located next to the blue trash dumpsters adjacent to the cafeteria and Day Care Room.  For every 2,000 lbs. we collect, the school will receive $90, so start saving.  We will also continue collecting ink cartridges and cell phones.  Please call the office if you have any questions.

Conference Week - 10/20 to 10/24

Conferences are this week! Please remember that we are on minimum day schedule every day this week. All Kindergarten students will attend the first session from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. All other students are dismissed at 12:30 p.m. daily. Please make sure you have made arrangements for student pick up as we have no student supervision.

Your attendance at your child's conference is so important. As a school, we value parent and family input and involvement in your child's education. If you are unable to make your appointment, please be sure to call your child's teacher to re-schedule. Conferences are important opportunities to:

  • Ask questions about your child's learning and academic progress
  • Learn how you can assist at home
  • Begin or continue communication between your child's teacher and you
  • Demonstrate to your child that what they learn and do in school will be shared and is important to you!

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week was developed in 1988 to promote an awareness of the dangers of drugs. This special week was developed in honor the memory of Enrique Camarena. He worked for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and was killed while working undercover in Mexico.

During the week of Oct. 20th – Oct. 24th, we will have activities to educate our students on dangers of drugs. We would love to have each student participate in the daily events below:

Monday: “Rally Against Drugs”
Kick off RRW by wearing red.

Tuesday: “I’m too bright for Drugs”
Wear bright colors or neon colors.

Wednesday: “Turn Your Back on Drugs”
Wear your T-shirt backwards.

Thursday: “Put Drugs to Sleep”
Wear your favorite pajamas (no slippers).

Friday: “Our School is Drug Free”
Show your school spirit, by wearing you school colors.

Laurel Elementary School Attendance Update

Please help your child arrive to school safely and on time.  Please remember the following:

7:58 a.m. First Bell rings indicating students are to line up at their designated spot, meet their teacher, and walk to class.

8:00 a.m. Second Bell is when school officially begins.  If your child arrives after this bell, he/she will be marked tardy.

In order to ensure you child arrives to school on time, please make arrangements to arrive on campus by 7:45 a.m.

Thank you in advance for being on time and making it a priority with your student.

Laurel Shines in Elementary Academic Pentathlon

Laurel's 6th Grade Academic Pentathlon Team rocked the house at the Orange County Dept. of Education awards ceremony.  We had a record-breaking team with 56 individual medals earned.  The team received 1st Place for the Super Quiz and 2nd Place in the Overall Team category.  There were 12 schools in our division.  Congratulations to Pentathlon Team members Chris Botello, Felix Gaeta, Azeem Horani, Carson Kaiser, JiSoo Kim, Abraham Lara, Amy Ramirez, Kaileen Santos, and Daisy Serna.  Great job Leopards!

A special thank you to Ms. Berrner for all of her hard work in teaching and coaching our team to victory.  Under her leadership, Laurel's Pentathlon team gathered to practice after school once or twice a week and nearly every Saturday since November!

Street Sweeping -- Parking Alert!

Street sweeping on Flower Avenue is on Thursdays.  We are permitted to park anywhere along the east curb (the school side) other than the Bus Loading Zone.  The City has assured us that sweeping on the east side will be done around 7:00 a.m. so as not to interfere with our school traffic.  Please avoid parking on the west side (the business side) of Flower as sweeping will be done on that side later in the day, and you could be cited.

Alley Parking

Traffic in the back alley has become a concern, especially in the mornings from 7:45 - 8:00 a.m.  We ask ALL parents to enter on Birch and drive out toward Imperial.  Laurel families should never drive toward Birch or park in the alley.  Please be advised there is NO parking allowed in the alley.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.
