he Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) Board of Education has appointed Dr. Michael Trimmell as the new principal of Laurel Elementary Magnet School of Innovation and Career Exploration.
“Dr. Trimmell brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience to our district, and shares our vision of innovation with a student-first approach,” said Brea Olinda Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Brad Mason.
Trimmell has worked in education for over 12 years, most recently serving as the principal of Jersey Avenue Elementary School in the Little Lake City School District. During his tenure at Jersey Elementary, he led teachers and staff to multiple awards and recognitions including a 2018 California Distinguished School, a 2016 California Gold Ribbon School and a 2016 Title One Academic Achieving School. Trimmell is bilingual and has also served as a middle school assistant principal and a classroom science teacher.
Dr. Trimmell stated, “I am eager to work for an innovative, comprehensive school district that serves the diverse needs of all students. I am honored to be chosen to become a part of the dedicated Laurel team and I look forward to working with parents, staff and community members to ensure our students are given every opportunity to learn, grow and excel in their education.”
Trimmell has a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton, a master’s degree from National University and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from California State University, Long Beach. He is a proud resident of Brea and resides in the city with his wife and four children.
