Laurel Elementary Magnet School (LEMS) recently participated in the OC Pathways Showcase, where students highlighted their engagement with the RIASEC career exploration model. This event provided a unique platform for young learners to demonstrate their understanding of career pathways and the essential skills associated with various industries.
RIASEC, an acronym for Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional, is a widely recognized career assessment framework designed to help individuals identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths. By integrating RIASEC into the curriculum, Laurel empowered students to explore future career options in a meaningful and engaging way.
During the OC Pathways Showcase, LEMS students presented projects and activities that aligned with the six RIASEC themes. Attendees experienced interactive displays, student-led demonstrations, and gained insights into how early exposure to career exploration fosters lifelong learning and success.
“RIASEC is a set of letters that helps us figure out a good career pathway for students,” said Henry, a 6th grade student at LEMS. “RIASEC can help us learn what career will be good for us and our personality.” Henry shared that because his personality and interests are aligned with Realistic, Enterprising and Social, the best career paths for him would be within the medical fields or as a business owner.
The OC Pathways Showcase took place on Feb. 27, inviting families, educators, and community members to celebrate student achievements and the impact of career exploration in education. Laurel was proud to participate and share the transformative power of RIASEC with the broader community.
